What started out as a small town began to grow significantly after the completion of the railroad. Shortly thereafter, in 1872, Smyrna was incorporated. Ever since it has continued to grow, a testament to the community’s draws. Its nickname, the Jonquil City, was coined after jonquil bulbs were planted in the area, sparking a tradition of planting the flowers annually. These yellow flowers can be spotted around town in late spring. Smyrna’s city center has become a place for residents to gather, enjoy outdoor concerts, and join in on yearly festivities.
The community center provides year-long activities and events for Smyrna residents, including sports leagues, fitness rooms, meeting rooms, and a full kitchen. On any given day, you can find children playing in the games room, or Smyrna dancers practicing ballet.
